Solve : Modem gone / Hardware Search?

Answer»

Windows 95 running on a Dell Dimension XPS 233 with an INTERNAL US Robotics Sportster Winmodem. Mo modem showing (there was one yesterday !). Ran "Add Hardware Wizard" it stops with ERROR message - unable to run generic harware installer - or similar. SO it can't find my modem. Tried reinstalling the modem but Dell shipped the XPS with only a Dell recovery 3.5" floppy with ZZTOP in those days. Any IDEAS about another way of getting my modem to TALK to the PC (yes I have unbolted it and de and re-installed it). Thanks - Uncle Basil. What about downloading the drivers off the Dell site? Or at driverguide.com?Scan for viruses.WinModems are funky at best.. do as sugested and re-install the Dell drivers for it.

On the Bell Modem Driver Download Site they have the USR x2 Winmodem Voice for Windows NT. I can't seem to locate the driver for W95. Any other ideas or am I not looking carefully enough ?

Regards and thanks to all so far.

Uncle Basil.

I have downloaded the Dell drivers from their site onto another Pc. I have then offered them up via "Add new Hardware" and Update driver in System - none appear to be recognised. Cannon "talk" to modem the box is displayed "Cannot open Port".Buy a new modem, a NON-Winmodem, you won't regret it.I SECOND that emotion.
