Solve : Modem settings?

Answer»

The modem on my Windows computer has gone dead, and has been for quite some time. This was originally caused by a malware program who, among other things, killed the modem so it could dial up long distance numbers. Now the malware problems are long gone, but the thing that never got fixed was the settings for the modem. The modem SPEAKER is SET to "on", and you can hear it for a split second when it starts dialing, but then it cuts dead.

I am certain that this can be fixed by a registry edit. I recently replaced a hard drive and after re-installing XP from scratch, the modem worked perfect. However, when I loaded my old registry backup, the same problem obviously occurs. So, does anyone know where in the registry I can RESET this. It's just one of those little things that BUGS you, you know? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

JamesWhat if you uninstall the drivers, reboot and reinstall it?
