Solve : moitor connection error message?

Answer»

My daughter's emachine is 6 years old with auto updates, it is using windows XP home media operating system. Recently when she goes to boot up the computer, the monitor will SHOW the emachine logo and then as it goes to boot up windows it gives her an error message that says there is no connection to the monitor. If you go to bot under safemode the monitor shows all COMMANDS until it starts the boot up and then gives the same error mesage. Is this a driver error and how do I update it without reloading her operating system and having to wipe her hard drive clean?Well since you can still use safemode? try this...

Bootup in Safe Mode.
Start > All Programs > Accessories > 'Command Prompt' – right click and Select Run as 'Administrator'.

Type or copy the command:
Code: [Select]SET DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1This forces the invisible old drivers to reveal themselves in the device manager (optional).

Type or copy the command:
Code: [Select]devmgmt.mscThis will open the device manager.

In the Device Manager, go to View – enable Show hidden devices.
From the list, right click on the inactive device you WISH to remove and select Uninstall to remove the driver (this will help clean up).

Look for any unknown devices (YELLOW question-mark).

Find under 'Display Adapters' your graphic driver and 'Monitors' the display drivers - uninstall them.

Windows will then attempt to reinstall the drivers again, reboot and see if you can now install the correct graphics driver.
