Solve : Monitor goes blank? |
|
Answer» I have a Pent III 550 with Windows ME & 98SE. After either a few mins or a few hours, the monitor goes blank by itself & the only way to re-start it is power-off & on again. I SWAPPED the monitor with one on another pc & it still happens. I had a pc tech GUY look at it & he said its common with Pent III pc's. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks. I swapped the monitor with one on another pc & it still happens. Please clarify. Does the new monitor on the old computer keep turning off, or does the old monitor on the new computer keep turning off?The monitor from the second pc goes blank on the Pent III 550 pc & the monitor from that pc WORKS ok on the second pc. In other words, its the Pent III 550 pc which is the problem. I'm sure that should clarify it all Quote I had a pc tech guy look at it & he said its common with Pent III pc's Some PC technician. Did he tell you anything else? He did say that he can tinker around with it & say he thinks he's fixed it & yet when I get it home, find that its not fixed. He didnt charge me for trying to find the problem & doesnt want to charge me for saying that he's fixed it when its unfixable. Does the PC simply shut down when the monitor goes blank?Do you use add on video card or onboard video? Are you able to start it in Safe Mode? If so, while you are in Safe Mode, do a complete virus scan. It does sound like a hardware problem tho. MacPCWhat happens if you were to enable the power setting in the BIOS? Alan <>< Raptor: if you read my third post, I said that the led (power) light is still on & the fan is still on etc. So no, the pc doesnt shutdown. MacPC: if you read my second post, I said that I replaced the video card which means its an add-on video card. I did virus scans with Norton & AVG and also spyware scans using Adaware, Spybot & Spysweeper. Safe-mode hasnt done anything. ale52: the monitor doesnt go blank only at idle, it sometimes does it when i'm actually using it so the bios power setting is irrelevant. My idea is that the guy is a spudhead. What is the make/model/wattage/history of the power supply unit. What make/model of machine is this? What components and age? Has it had a rough life? If using an addon card is the onboard disabled, or does it do this automatically? Quote Raptor: if you read my third post, I said that the led (power) light is still on & the fan is still on etc. So no, the pc doesnt shutdown. Oh, well sorry for that. I read a bloody +50 posts per day so you don't have to remind me what you allready said because I obviously won't remember. Quote doesnt want to charge me for saying that he's fixed it when its unfixable. Well, if a PC technician couldn't fix it on the spot I suppose we can't do so either from our desk seats. GX1_Man: I live in Melbourne, Australia so the make, etc of the power supply is of no relevance unless you live there too. The pc is an IBM clone bought new from a reputable pc shop 6 years ago I dont know what rough life means but I treated it with GREAT respect. I never hit it or thrown it out the window or poured a bucket of water on it. Apart from a noisy fan on the old video card, it's never let me down. Its not an integrated m/b so its always had a dedicated video card. Raptor: I posted the problem to see if anyone had any ideas, not a guaranteed cure. But I appreciate everyone's input. |
