Solve : Monitor Off Manually OK???

Answer»

Hi My PC,HP Vistas, comes back on after just a few minutes of being in "Sleep Mode" or when using "Power Management". HP FORUM says this is a fairly common problem when CONNECTED to a cable modem. The modem keeps triggering the PC to wake. I know this is probably a very basic question but is there any way I might HARM my PC by manually turning the monitor, only the monitor, off? This novice sure appreciates any help/advice. ThanksThat will not harm your PC. You can prevent it from waking up via modem by disabling the feature in bios and also in the NIC properties. The feature is called "Wake on Lan", or sometimes just "WOL" and it's a BIOS setting.

There is absolutely no way you will harm your PC by manually turning your monitor off when the PC is in standby. I always turn mine off. Apart from anything else, it's better for the planet.

What is the purpose of these feature ? I'd just LIKE to know, cause I'm thinking of disabling it, but I'd like to know what it does before I go ahead with that. It's designed for NETWORK computers so that a touch of the key starts the workstation...Hey I definitely appreciate the feedback. Thanks a bunch.Quote from: patio on September 23, 2007, 05:06:02 PM

Er, no, that's ordinary suspend. Wake On Lan is where the PC is woken up by the network (or LAN).
Oooops...thanx for the correction !
