Solve : Monitor resolution problem after reinstall of XP?

Answer»

Haven't been here on the forums for a week or two, glad to be back
I reinstalled Windows XP, and everything is great after reinstall. But a problem that has been bugging me is that the screen resolution is on 800x600 px, and when I change it, it gives me an out of range message. My resolution was 1024x768 px before the reinstall.

Any help is greatly appreciated

ThxHave you tried updating the video driver?

START>RIGHT-click "my computer">properties>hardware tab>device manager

click on the "+" sign next to "display adapter", right click on the item in the sub menu and click on "update driver"Sounds like he didn't even reinstall the driver, let alone upgrading it.I did install the driver, but Xp does not seem to recognize it. The driver came w/the monitor.

Did you install the chipset driver first, then the video card driver, then the monitor driver?I dont have a graphics card driver, it is an onboard which comes with the mobo.Which means re-install all your drivers...MBoard chipset drivers should go first...THANKS guys, I reinstalled and it worked! You guys are awesome!! Good News ! ! Quote from: ThomasTheXPUser on October 06, 2009, 05:11:40 PM

Did you get the drivers from the installation CD or from an extra CD that came with the computer or motherboard?

I'm asking because I don't know if chipset drivers come on any installation CDs.  I had to reinstall the chipset driver on a Dell computer once, but the driver came on an extra CD that came with the computer.I don't get your question...
Usually there is a Recovery CD containing sometimes both the OS and all REQUIRED drivers...
In the other scenario there is a seperate cd labeled Drivers. Quote from: patio on October 06, 2009, 05:34:48 PM

WELL that pretty much answers my question

I just wasn't sure if other required drivers are sometimes included with installation/recovery CDs.  I THOUGHT other required drivers were always on a separate CD.
