Solve : Monitors connected to Windows 7 shows unused space both sides?

Answer»

My desktop has two OS installed (dual boot): Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows XP Professional. And I have at home two monitors: one 22 inches and one 24 inches.

Whenever I boot on Windows 7 Home Premium, no one of the two monitors take advantage of the screen full width, but present a blank ribbon 1 cm wide on the left side and another similar on the right side. Both are using the recommended resolution.

However, if I boot on Windows XP, the full screen width is used, and no blank ribbons at all.

I updated my motherboard BIOS but the problem persists.

Both monitors perform fine when connected to another Windows XP desktop.

Any idea on how can I solve this problem?Proper Win7 vid drivers installed ? ?According to SlimDrivers all my Windows 7 drivers are updated.I don't trust SlimDrivers...
Any yellow !!'s in device manager ?Not at all. I open one by one andd found nothing. See attachment for sample, pls.

[recovering disk space, attachment deleted by admin]When Win7 is booted up adjust the resolution for the monitors in Control Panel.I've been there several times, but no way; settings are as you can see in first attachment.

Regarding the video driver UPDATE, Windows says it's OK, as shown in second attachment.

[recovering disk space, attachment deleted by admin]Is it the Dell driver ? ?
If not...grab that one using your SERVICE Tag #...No, Patio. This is referred to the Intel G43/G45 Express ChipsetTry the Dell one...Dell's are finicky about drivers...use your service tag #Thanks, Patio, but what you mean by my Service Tag # ? Where is it supposed to be?

Anyway, I don't think it's a Dell problem because same thing happens with a 22" Samsug monitor when connected to my Windows 7 desktop. Then it's a resolution setting...they don't carry over from 1 OS to the other...
Service Tag # is on the bottom or rear of the PC...or in your Manual.I decided to start playing with all Monitor control BUTTONS and options (horizantl, vertical, brightness, etc.). When nothing worked I press the RESET Monitor Settings and VOILÁ! The lateral blank ribbons of 1 cm. with each disappeared!

Thankas for your interest.Good to HEAR you solved it...
