Solve : Mouse Doesn't Install in Windows Vista?

Answer»

I just got a new MOUSE for my computer running Vista HOME edition because my old mouse was operating erratically. I cannot get the new mouse to install properly to function.

I am using a Toshiba laptop, and when I plug the new Microsoft optical mouse into the USB port, windows opens a window showing it "Found New Hardware", and gives three options. I selected "Locate and install driver software" from the list.

Eventually, a software driver window opens and says that "The software for this device has been successfully installed" and that the "Unidentified Device" is "READY to use".

Even so, the mouse does not work. Nor does it appear in Device Manager. I KNOW it has power, because the LED is lit on it.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.Shut down the laptop...Remove the mouse...Turn the laptop back on...plug the mouse back in.
