Solve : Mouse lag?

Answer»

OK. Just a few thoughts. They break down roughly into 2 categories

Human factors - psychology - it is a common human trait to refuse to believe unwelcome facts - that effort or time invested was wasted, e.g. this cool mouse that I spent three hours (!) choosing [for its appearance?] may be faulty. Or, I refuse to believe that this super pretty chick that I spent 3 weeks chasing might be dishonest, even though my bank ACCOUNT is now empty and my car is gone. Another human trait is what I call "hardware death denial SYNDROME". You usually find it with hard drives. "It can't be broken! There must be a magic software fix or some settings that need twiddling or - Hey! Reinstall the driver!". Yet another is "past performance syndrome" - "it worked OK for N days/weeks/months/years so why WOULD it fail now?" - Grandpa lived OK for 99 years so why would he DIE now?

Practical matters - I really hate wireless mice. They tend to go to sleep to conserve battery life and need to be woken up, either by a movement or sometimes by clicking a button. The RF link can be problematical. I have bought 2 and each time gone back to wired mice. The fact that it seems to be satisfactory in safe mode (when the driver isn't loaded) makes me wonder if you have some kind of setting enabled to do with time-before-sleep or similar. Or the RF receiver could be overloading the USB port, or the port or USB chipset could be faulty or marginal. We do not know your motherboard brand or model. Or if plugging the RF receiver into a powered hub puts things right. Or a different USB port. Or if you have recently added USB devices. Personally, I would get a $10 wired mouse and see if that worked how I wanted. If it did, I would conclude that something or other in the wireless mouse setup was dodgy.

I will note that we have had very little in the way of description of the problem. Just that there is a "lag", whatever that means. Do you mean that the mouse pointer on the screen does not move straight away when you move the mouse? Or that it is jerky? Or what? This is really not called for....Im not here to troll, im here for help. . . Im obviously not going to get any.Quote from: oneano on July 05, 2010, 09:04:51 AM
