Solve : MS 2000 PROFESSIONAL... NEED HELP WITH C/WINNT?

Answer»

I BOUGHT A LAPTOP FROM EBAY FOR THE PURPOSE OF GETTING ONLINE AND PLAYING VIDEO FILES FROM CD-DISK. IT CAME WITH WINDOWS 2000 PROFESSIONAL. IN THE "C" DRIVE IT HAS C/WINNT NOT A FILE CALLED "C/WINDOWS"......I CAN GET ONLINE TO SURF O.K.....BUT I CAN'T PLAY ANY VIDEO FILES FROM DISK. I CAN NOT DOWNLOAD ANY NEWER MEDIA PLAYER FROM THE WEB AND I CAN NOT EVEN LOAD A DIFFERENT OPERATING SYSTEM LIKE "XP".
CAN ANYBODY OFFER SOME INSIGHT INTO WHAT I MIGHT POSSIBLY TRY?Welcome to the CH forums.

That's exactly how it should be...

You sure you're not trying to play a dvd disk on a cd player?

Which media player do you currently USE and which one do you want to download?

Operating SYSTEMS are 'installed' not loaded. Do you want to upgrade to a version of XP, if so do you have an UNUSED upgrade cd or a genuine, unused full version cd complete with COA?

Please post back with details of your laptop and any error messages which are displayed.

It is considered very bad forum etiquette to post in capitals, and gives us all a headache. Please turn off the Capslock.

I am not play/dvd on cd player.....media player now i think is 4 or 5, want to download from web-media player 9 which is recommended for windows 2000....Quote from: peckerwood2

Why not? Have you tried downloading WMP9 from MS at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/9series/default.aspx

Why not? What software are you using?

Do you know how to setup an internet connection in Windows ? ?i have just tried to download wmp9 from suggested site...download transferring to file with red star flash on left side of folder...i saved the download to document file called {MPSetup} double click to run setup started acting like it was loading...then got error ...setup is currently unable to detect available updates. please try again later....the error i get when i try to run set-up for wmp9 is "setup is currently unable to detect available updates. please try again later"....
the error i get when i try to play a video is "unable to download an appropriate decompressor"Have you CHECKED for Win2k updates recently? Win2k is up to SP4 is it installed on your system?

See here for the decompressor error message and check the file type you are trying to play against the supported WMP file types. You may have to download a third-party decompressor for your file type or use a file converter.
If your looking for a media player give this one a try...

I am not REALLY a big MS player fan. I have used VLC player for a while and really like it. Plays just about anything and is easy to use.
