Solve : Multiple Boot with an Upgrade Disk?? |
|
Answer» Hi, I have an old Windows XP computer, I don't really have much information about it to give you, but I was wondering if it was possible to create a multiboot system using a Windows ME upgrade disk. Also, the same applies to my other computer- Vista 32 bit, Hp pavilion slimline, 188 GB ram, ( more about this computer on my profile) and I was wondering if an XP upgrade disk can multiboot with it. I know it's possible to multiboot with an older system, but I'm not sure if you can use an upgrade edition. Thanks in advance, any information will be helpful Not enough info... The specs in your profile say CPU speed of 200MHz. That can't be correct if you're running Vista on it. A 200MHz processor speed indicates a computer that's ancient in computer age.Ah, sorry about that, I must have mistyped. It's 200GHz. Right, well what I'm asking is, if I can install an older upgrade disc as a second Os. I do know that it is possible to install an older operating system over a newer one, such as windows 98 over 95, but I'm not sure if you can multiboot with an older upgrade. I have two computers, the first is a 32-bit XP home edition with 512MB Ram( its Very old), I don't know much about it, however I could get you more information if you need it. I have a ME "special edition upgrade" disc to install onto this machine. I am asking here first because I don't want to go to all the trouble of partitioning, formatting, and then EDITING boot.ini, only to find I can't install it. The second is my 32-bit Vista Home Premium , 1.88GB RAM, Hp Pavilion Slimline, running service pack two. (200GHz CPU) I have a XP Professional disc (another upgrade disc), and once again I was wondering if it was possible to install it onto the vista, but because it's older, I'm not sure if it would work. And even if, for INSTANCE, I was trying to install a windows 7 upgrade disc, I'm not sure if I'd be able to, because it would upgrade my system, rather than just installing it. So basically, I want to know if it is possible to use an upgrade disc, mainly an older one, as a secondary operating system. For instance, you can install Vista onto a XP machine as a second Operating System, or 98 over 95, Vista over 7, etc; but I just don't know if you can use an upgrade disc. Sorry if I haven't phrased thins very clearly Not with an Upgrade CD...no. The option would be 1 OS or the other. I imagine your speed may be 1/100th of 200GHz, or 2GHz. Right click on My Computer (XP) or Computer (Vista) and select Properties. You'll see the processor speed shown there.it probably says 2.00 Ghz, and they omitted the decimal is all. Quote from: soybean on March 08, 2010, 09:00:12 AM You still have that wrong. Yes.... sorry about that, I'm not really concentrating today, I have a lot on my mind. Thank you for replying. Quote from: patio on March 08, 2010, 07:41:34 AM Not with an Upgrade CD...no. At any rate no matter what CPU it is ...this still HOLDS true. |
