Solve : MVPS HOSTS using 100% CPU!!? |
|
Answer» I just installed MVPS HOSTS on a friends computer. After a reboot he couldn't connect to the internet, the fan started running VERY NOISY and the computer was extremely slow. I remembered that MVPS HOSTS would cause SVCHOST.EXE to use 100% CPU, so I ended the task. Computer was faster, fan stops spinning and he could connect to the internet. However, he has to be on the computer every day, so I NEED to find a permanent fix. I too am having the same problem. Where did you dload the file from ? ? No Norton products. I got the file from here. Because he is constantly busy on the computer, I can't get HW info. I don't think it's a problem with the hardware though. The main problem is that it keeps taking up the memory and every web page I read says that it should not be TERMINATED. But the computer only works when it is terminated. BTW, this computer is a very old computer. I just read the web page. It said that having the DNS Client turned on can cause system slow down. I'll disable the service on the other computer tonight and see what happens. Before you disable DNS client make sure you followed the guide to place it correctly... IVE also had SUCCESS with disconnecting from the web beforehand and disabling any protection apps...re-booting and reconnecting.OK, thanks. I'll try tonight. My laptop seems to be working fine with DNS Client turned off.IT WORKED!! HOORAY!! I set the DNS Client service startup type to Disabled and it stopped hogging the CPU. Thanks for your suggestions. |
