Solve : my bros. new computer he got for 50 bucks.?

Answer»

it's a dell, intel celeron processor. 534MHz, 192MB of RAM.

it's running very slow and wants to know what to do to speed it up? did he get a good deal? it has XP with SP2.
any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.XP is going to run slow on a 500 MHz processor with only ~200 MB of RAM.
But a reinstall of XP will probably help a bit. You should always format and reinstall when you buy a computer from someone. You never know what they might have installed.

Actually the XP license on the machine is worth more than the actual computer. So if he got the license and install disc for XP along with the computer he made a pretty good deal.

hey thanks, i'll pass this info on to him.Adding some RAM, which is cheap, may boost it up, as well.I agree with the above.
Another stick of RAM and Win2K will run great on that machine ( XP minus the eye CANDY IMHO )Quote

The lack of BSOD's is the nicest feature...no ? ?Never had a single PROBLEM with 2K....must be 8-9 years old.thanks to all who HELPED. You're welcome He can probably get Win2K for about 30 bucks...total investment = 80 bucks and a well running machine...
