I had to do a RECOVERY on my Compaq Desk Top, after doing the recovery my computer will not fully boot into Windows XP Home. It goes through the boot sequence up to displaying the Windows Home logo and then it goes no further. I have no idea what is happing, I tried a different hard drive thinking that was the problem, made no difference... Very confusing ... Can someone please give me an idea what could be the problem. I have tried everything I can think of...
 hmm this sounds like what happened on my friends computer, check out the mbr( master boot record) you MIGHT have to reinstall again, if you can, try a Linux distribution to force a hard format on the disk, then reinstall xp over it, in ESSENTIALLY a, "from scratch" mode, if it doesn't take either of the distros involved then you may need a a new hard drive,  but if it does, it usually means the master boot record became corrupt some how, and as windows is lazy, sometimes it won't write a whole new boot record as it found a perfectly good one in the recovery, so, you may have to do what I suggest to make the recovery rebuild a new M.B.R. for you from scratch that reflects your current hardware state. Somehow the recovery disks must have been defected...
