Answer» i have windows xp home edition and sometimes my computer makes a loud humming noise it is not the fan what can cause this and how can i fix it i have windows xp home edition and sometimes my computer makes a loud humming noise it is not the fan what can cause this and how can i fix itPlease post system components, operating system and more info about when the HUM occurs.My little Shuttle XPC has an aluminium ("aluminum" for Americans) case and it sometimes makes a humming sound due to the case resonating with the hard drive or fan or something. I find that just pressing once with my hand on the top of the case stops it for DAYS on end. Or I can put something weighty like a 50 stack of DVD-Rs on top of it. Instead of stack of DVDs....
