Answer» my desktop got a nasty virus posing as an antivirus. all it would do is open windows and kill the system TRIED to restore the computer with the disc provided by emachines. it made it worst now all it does is startup shut down over and over. when i try to start it up in safe mode it says i'm missing the dll file below.
windows root\system32\hal.dll
i tried to call the manufactures but the warranty is up and now im stuck. is there any one that can help.
my specs are below
my computer is: AMD Athlon XP 3200+ Processor 1G PC2700 DDR Memory 160GB 7,200rpm Hard Drive 8x DVD+/-R Multiformat Optical Drive nForce2 Audio (AC'97) and Stereo Speakers nVidia GeForce 4MX Integrated Graphics with 64MB Shared Memory v.92 56Kbps Modem and 10/100 Ethernet Five USB 2.0 Ports and 8-in-1 Media Card Reader Windows XP Home, MS Works 7, Money 2004, Nero 6 Suite, PowerDVD and Norton Anti-Virus thats all there is to it find the missing file, unzip, then move it to c:/system32/ it seems that its just in the root of it. The FILES in it would be subdirectories.hal.dll error is not that easily solvable: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/findbyerrormessage/a/missinghaldll.htmIf u have a Win XP CD boot from it and do like if u were going to install. Do not USE THE REFORMAT COMMAND. Follow the INSTRUCTION and u will come to a fix this install. Choose this option and it run. This will fix all your dll problems, back and let us know what happen.if you have upgrade cd of xp, you can upgrade in place, which means upgrading with same version of windows and it should repair your xp system files.
