  My computer recently stopped working. the computer was shut down and when it was turned back on all i got was a black screen and now i have a black screen with the words enter current password: ,, what would the current password be and how can i get the computer back up and running normally.. any help would be greatly appreciated thank youMuch more information is required. We don't even know if this is a laptop or desktop.It's been AWHILE...



Enter current password is more than likely the password to the account created by windows called "Administrator", which you probably haven't set as anything, so try entering it in blank, otherwise you will have to blank the password file to that user.This sounds like it's asking for a BIOS password.
There is a LIST I know of DEFAULT BIOS passwords, but more info is definitely needed.Iam very sorry for the lack of info i was in a hurry  :-?.. anyhow it is a desktop..gateway-running windows xp.  i have tried typing in ADMIN, USER, it only gives u 3 tries and then it says system halted fatal error  password check failed.. when the power button is pressed to turn the computer on .. it doesnt boot up or anything a black screen with the words enter  current password:  and thats all i can do cant go any farther.. if more info is needed PLEASE LET me know....  thank you for the help so far


Have you tried just hitting Enter at the password prompt ? ?yes nothing works
And the Gateway model number is..........i finally got it working but now when it boots up after the xp screen loads it blinks and then the safe mode screen pops up like i just hit f8 but i dont touch anything, and i can only start the computer in safe mode other wise it will reboot over and over again.. thanks
