Can somebody help me? When I turn on my COMPUTER it begins to run and then freezes at the "Windows is Starting" screen. :-? The computer doesn't make sounds any more but all the lights are on. It won't let me RESTART or CONTROL, alt, delete or anything.......in fact the keyboard doesn't respond at all. I have tried disconnecting everything and starting again but nothing. If I leave it to SEE if it does anything it has stayed on for about half an hour until I get fed up and disconect it again. Is there anything I can do to it to at least get into the system to find out what is wrong with it? :-/Can you boot into safe mode? (Press F8 key several times at boot BEFORE the Windows logo.)No it won't do anything..... What unusual event preceeded all of this?Well last night the computer did it's weekly defragmenting. This morning it opened fine and I checked the e-mail. Could I have gotten a virus from the INTERNET??? Are you using anything for virus/malware protection? What is the computer make/model? McAfee comes with a Virus Scan Boot Disk, which allows you to scan for viruses from one single floppy disk (Symantec requires more than one disk).
When you get your computer up and running, create a boot disk by clicking START, PROGRAMS, McAFEE, and Create Rescue Disk.
Follow the simple step by step instructions.
If your computer does not start, just put the disk in while you power it on, and all should be well.
