Solve : My monitor screen dims for no reason. Why?? |
|
Answer» My 10-year old Pentium3 recently causing the monitor screen dims out and goes to a blank screen for no reason. It will brighten out again after few seconds. There is nothing wrong with the monitor (tested with another CPU) and the computer can starts as normal. I do not run many softwares or open many files at the TIMES and also have changed the CMOS battery last month. Sounds like your monitor is on its way out.Uh, Spoiler, he said: Quote from: cyw on February 19, 2008, 12:48:52 AM There is nothing wrong with the monitor (tested with another CPU) and the computer can starts as normal. How is your monitor doing in Safe Mode?Quote from: soybean on February 19, 2008, 08:54:43 AM Quote from: Spoiler on February 19, 2008, 08:03:59 AMSounds like your monitor is on its way out.Uh, Spoiler, he said: To me it still sounds like the monitor is on its way out. Or maybe the power cable or the power strip the monitor is plugged into. Just my opinion. it might just be a frame rate problem my monitor does the same thing screen goes few like 2-5 seconds later it comes back up....... possibly the graphics card or motho board capacitors getting old my motho board capacitors are bulging and my screen only started doing that since they started to bulge. so 1. could just be refresh rate readjusting 2. graphics card dieing 3. MOTHERBOARD problemsTry removing the video card from Device Manager / REBOOT. Windows will see the card and REINSTALL the drivers. Make sure you have the video drivers on CD 1st before you remove them. Alan <>< Hi, thanks for the many suggestions. My friend is bringing his extra monitor, and let me try out for a longer period this time. Previously, I tried out for about an hour and it was OK. Now I have to ascertain which is at fault - monitor or CPU. Anyway, Wednesday night, I ran defragmenter and went to sleep. In the morning, moving the mouse and hitting the keyboard could not kick up the screen. The power light was on but not the flicker. Re-booted and it started normal. Can this means the problem is in the GRAPHIC card? or may be the mother board? |
