Answer» I have a windows vista home premium package on my dell desktop. Since loading a windows update my computer will not start up properly. It gets to the screen with the option to either start windows repair or start windows normally. The first option can not repair the proble and the SECOND option does not get to the windows start up screen before re booting.
I have tried doing a system restore but am only given one restore date that will not cover the hard drive and therefore fails. I have tried starting in safe mode but again it crashes and re starts.
Can any one help or suggest what the problem may be?
ThanksYes you have a problem. Let's see if we can help you.
First, Find your windows vista cd. We are going to PUT it in and boot off of it. We are going to go past the boot or repair screen and it should come to the second boot or repair screen. Here it will display your windows INSTALL. At that point you select the windows directory DISPLAYED, usually 1 and hit enter. It may ask if you want to do a clean install or a repair again, select the repair and it will examine the install and then delete the /windows/system directory files and reinstall them. Then it will reboot. I FORGET if it does it once or twice.
Second, if the first isn't correct it's close. Don't click to re-format the drive or you will loose everything, but you'll have a freshly installed system. HA! Good luck.
