Solve : my speakers dont work and monitor also keeps saying no signal?

Answer»

If monitor shows a ''no signal'' on screen then it should be Ok itself.

The advice re turn off (unplug) puter is good - an ATX with power cord still in back of PSU is not TOTALLY ''dead'' ..... tho risk of dangerous shock is minimal IMO - more to the point is the slight risk of shorting something out inadvertently while fishing around.

Hoping that a reseat of vid card just might help. Oh and, INSPECT pins in VGA cable to make sure all 15 are in good shape each end - unless you are DVI connected.jj: i checked the monitor by hooking it up to a different computer. It came on. So its not the monitor. Its the computer.

I had a question. This setup of the MOTHERBOARD is different, I am attaching an image. In the image, the port where the video connector attaches isnt near any video card or audio card. So how would I know which one is the video card?

Oh nuts, how do I attach an image
Sounds LIKE you have an on board video card.

If indeed that has failed and you have spare PCI slots or even an AGP - you could get a better quality card, shut off on board vid thru BIOS and then enjoy better video than before and hopefully cure the monitor output problem.

Have you checked that VGA cable tho - just to be sure no pin problems at either end.chris yes i checked the vga cable no pin problems. By the way, how do you put an image in this reply?
Under the reply window message box .... look below at ''additional options" ........ the ''attach'' is where you browse to your own image location on your puter.

It must be an acceptable format and size.oh okay thanks

jj and chris :
this is what the inside of the computer looks like. The place where the monitor atttaches to the computer does not have an attached card, the cards are to the side, so how would I know which one is the video card

[Saving space - attachment deleted by admin]Well - that's a bit basic!

I do think tho the chances are you have an ''on board'' video - meaning that the chipset etc is INTEGRATED into your motherboard.

So - if that has failed then by shutting down the on board thru BIOS you could well add a new card (and a better one) to your PCI, PCIe or AGP slots.Does anyone else have access to that computer? I'm thinking that someone may have unplugged it and then plugged you cables back into the wrong ports. If you have a motherboard with on board video and you manufacturer added a video card then there should be two places on the back of the computer that the monitor will plug into. Are there two?JJ: No there is only one 15 pin port on the back of the computer, not two. Should I just try reseating the cards both of them? It wouldnt hurt would it, cause one is the video card (even though I dont know which one it is), and the other is the sound card I guess, but even if I reseat them, it shouldnt do any harm right?

Chris: First, how do I get into BIOS if the computer doesnt give out any video signal?

Good point!! I was thinking that you'd have basic vga at that stage of boot but - if zilch then yeah - no BIOS access. Sorry - was thinking of most usual situations. Tricky.
