Solve : My Works folder in C:/ ??

Answer»

I have discovered a folder called, "My Works" on my c:/ drive. The folder contains several huge files (1 gig files) with names like:
default.C00
default.C01
kristi.C00
kristi.C01

Can anyone tell me what type of files these are or what is normally CONTAINED in the "My Works" folder?

Fred C00 and C01 files (as far as I can tell) are WinAce files. WinAce is compression software like WinRAR and WinZip. Those files are split compressed files. C00 being the first in the sequence and C01 being the second. As to what might be in those files, your guess is as good as mine. I tried SEARCHING for the specific file names and came up with nothing. Thanks for reply. I downloaded and installed WinAce and tried to open the .C00 and .C01 files. That did not work. Do you know of any way that I could open the file to look at the contents. I've already tried to change the extension to .txt and read with a txt editor, but it did not work. thanksQuote from: frobertson on May 03, 2008, 12:29:09 PM

Have you or somebody with access to this PC installed Cyberlink DVD Solution or Suite? This application creates a "My Works" folder, and possibly puts big files in it.
I'm not familiar with WinAce compression format, but I suppose, it works similar to RAR files.
C00, C01, and so on are only partial files, so you can't open them.
This is how RAR format works. You'll see files like: *.r01, *.r02.....and finally *.rar file.
When you double click on *.rar file, it combines all *.r01, *.r02....files, and produces one uncompressed file.
You may be looking for some *.ACE file, and double click on it.Guys, that's it. I do have DVD Cyberlink installed on this computer. The files must be some sort of video files. WOW, this forum is great. Thanks!10 points for Dias Very nice Dias.It is flattering to get all this praise, but my conscience will not permit me to bask in it any more. The cleverness is not mine!

You still deserve the praise for being smart enough to google it. Oddly enough, I tried the same search but never got a Cyberlink result or anything that looked relevant. Hmmm...I just tried, and...same as Quaxo.Exactly the same results both in Firefox and IE6 via google.co.uk. Search term was

"my works" folder

& the first result was Cyberlink
Because I'm in Thailand, I get redirected to www.google.co.th, I wouldn't have thought the results would be any different though. Google Thailand's results come from the main Google.com site.

Oh well, solved their problem ANYWAY. Good job! hahaha
