Solve : Mysterious software menu after startup?

Answer»

Hi,

A strange menu is appearing (and disappearing in less than a second), after every startup of a Windows 7 laptop. It pops up and goes away with no chance to actually see what it is.

One day the laptop froze right after a startup, while I was running it remotely, giving me the chance to make a Print Screen of that strange hidden application starting up.

Please take a look at the attached image of the menu and its LOGO. If you know what this strange application is doing, and/or if it is something to worry about, LET me know. The logo is a light blue icon with two white GEAR Wheels (cog wheels) inside of a side viewed head, also in white.

[recovering disk space, attachment deleted by admin]I dont recognise the Logo...what new apps have you installed in the last Month ? ?Thanks for following this up. There are actually two Norwegian users sharing this laptop. I am the Administrator, and discovered this weird happening by coincidence while starting the laptop remotely. I do not know when this might have been installed or infected.

You may want to search back further.

It's not any of the others listed. The older ones are really old, from 2012, and I do not think that this strange behavior is that old. I am afraid that this might be something suspicious and maybe meant to be hidden, hence I will not find it the ordinary way. That logo belongs to Western Digital, a hard drive manufacturer. See result of Google search for that image:

Wow! I've never seen a URL this long but I tested it and when you click on it it goes to the page I was looking at when I copied the URL.Thank you!

Good to know that this is not a hacker or VIRUS related issue.

And also, by the way, I concluded, tested and learned that it is actually possible to search directly for an image/photo with Google! I didn’t know that. This made me wonder about all the things that might have been uploaded since the beginning of this feature.

Thanks again! Great job! Solved!
