Answer» I turned on my speakers today to listen to a tutorial, . .
and there it was again, the Mysterious Trap Door Sound ,
It sounds a whole lot like a trap door in a castle cellar, that suddenly opens
and gobbles up it's unsuspecting victims. then swings shut on its creaking
rusty hinges., and it can be a little startling as it is eeerriiee.
I thought, my detection software episodes or AOL's spy Zapper, or HJT,
WOULD have at least detected it by now.
What is this, . . . I can not be the only one this is happening to, although I
have searched previous posts for strange sounds and noises, I found
nothing ??
Whats up with this ?
Jp What OS, what Anti-virus, what firewall, what scans have you done :-?

Check in Control Panel under Sounds and Multimedia and see what sounds are assigned to what events...
patio. 8-)Jp, you're running Win XP with a Celeron with 128MB of RAM. You have my sympathy.
By the, have you ever tried installing Service Pack 2 for Win XP?Soybean,
Will do ! Thank you.
About(SP2),
I am in the process, dl65, suggested I DL, AV software and a spyware first, I am hesitating because I am wanting to know how much they are going to slow down my computer, since I have DL Prevex and it is compatible to some degree, however, dl65 is usually right. any suggestions?
Can you tell me why they are essential, what can they do that Prevex can't ?
Jp** This is TOO funny !!!**
This "creaking sound" has got to be, the sound made by America Online when one of "your buddies" goes online !
If you know what a buddy list is and you had one, this sound always plays when someone gets online while you are.*
Double check this, its to easy but its logical.................. Patio,
I know things could be better, But, . . . What is wrong with WXP, with Celtron with 128 MB of Ram ?
Also, Soybean,
The sound scheme is Windows default.
Program Events, list, not familiar, under this Sounds balnk;closed.
Audio Sound playback; SoundMax Digital Audio Sound Recording; Default device; Soundmax Digital Audio
Default device; SoundMax Wavelength Synth
I found nothing I would recognize ?
Jp Buddy List, . . . Never used it, . .
Yes there seems to be someone but I don't know who he is ?
I sent a mesg, back maybe he'll answer, . . I look into it !!??
That is funny !!

Jp, are you confused? I posted the comment about "Celtron Celeron with 128 MB of Ram", not Patio, and I said nothing in a previous post about your sound scheme or audio.
BELIEVE me, you will not find any savvy Win XP user who would not want more than 128MB of RAM. 128MB is great for Win 98/98SE/ME. But, it's a very small amount for Win XP. Increasing that to 256MB would make a very noticeable improvement in your computer's performance. And, MANY XP users prefer to have at least 512MB. Depending on the type of memory you have, you could also just add 256MB, for a total of 384MB.
Edit: LEFT out words will not from "Believe me, you will not find any savvy ..."Soybean,
Sounds like you and patio have a difference of opinion, nevermind, . .
I wasn't to sure what I have here, I UPGRADE from a note nook, with W-98,
and a desk top is preety good move, unless you traveling.
I'll look into the RAM increase, that's inspiring.
I have noticed that when I make some rapid key strokes the computer makes some noticable sounds catching up I think, any way it sounds as if it is straining and it sounds precarious at times, I have noticed that when I am drawing on fax tools page, this happems when things get a little to complex, and some times it locks with error message and if I haven't saved the drawing, I have to close and it will not be there.
Maybe the RAM's can't take it?
That Buddy List noise was funny, I checked it out still checking.
Thanks. Jp
Sorry I mixed you up with patio,O.K. Hovetops,
I just heard that noise,. . today I used AIM for the first time, cool !
Now what, I heard the noise I went to the buddy list to find out who was there, I didn't see anything
You tell me what can I do to find out who sent me a message ??
........or isn't it the buddy list ?
There are more than one variation, . .the other sounds like a low key thud, that goes boing, like a big spring broke.
JpSoybean and i rarely have a difference of opinion...most times he thinks of things way before i do...
