Solve : Need Admin permission to delete desktop shortcut??

Answer»

Hello, my admin installed some programs today, and now i have a lot of icons on my desktop. I tried to delete them, but it says you need to confirm this operation. Its just a shortcut, not a program. So why can't i delete it? Is there a way to do it without admin rights? and i cant make it hidden either ... Help?Check where the shortcut is stored.

Is it in the Public folder (shared) or the User folder?
Public Folder: C:\Users\Public\Desktop
User Folder: C:\Users\(Your Account Name)\Desktop
or
Public Folder: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop
User Folder: C:\Documents and Settings\(Your Account Name)\Desktop

Public folder are VISIBLE to everyone's account - you will need Admin permission to delete.
User folder are only visible to that user - you should have User permission to delete.

If you need admin access and can't ask the Admin (for some unknown reason), Vista is very easy to break into to the admin account or create a duplicate (they are even dumb enough to allow anyone guest access to a hidden admin account if your've got the command prompt enabled). Not sure if I can on here or even should inform you how though. Lots of others might be interested too (even if you did have a good reason). I suggest you just ask the Admin. Are you logged on as admin?Quote from: Azzaboi on October 15, 2010, 07:42:09 PM

Yes, its in the public folder. HMM, i can delete the pictures and videos in the public folder without Administrator rights but not these shortcuts.Probably you can't delete those shortcuts.

But if you GO into safe mode, you can try deleting them there. If nothing works, ask your admin to delete them for you.
