Solve : need help in restoring back up? |
|
Answer» I'm a beginner with PROBLEMS. Backed up hard drive before changing it. Used back up cd's that came with the computer but they don't have all of the information and programs and WORK books that I have gathered over the past few years. Used back up cd's that came with the computer but they don't have all of the information and programs and work books that I have gathered over the past few years. Did you use your external HD to back up your data and then use the restore disk to reinstall XP? Have you formatted you C drive? I think the new hard drive is formatted ALREADY. The external drive is a Maxtor one touch with 300 gb capacity. Can I restore everything from the maxtor to my computer even though there is a lot of information already on the drive? Won't I end up with 2 copies of most everything? When I select a date on the Maxtor I get 3 things: 1 is Maxtor, next is C drive and last one is restore drive. Should I try to restore all 3 to my current C drive? I am using Windows XP home edition.ok.... so the new hard drive you installed in your computer is empty or have you already installed windows onto it. You should be able to copy your entire hard drive from the Maxator external and it should just work. keep us postedNo the drive is not empty. I reinstalled the 7 cd's that came with it. But so much stuff is missing. Again, won't I end up with a lot of duplication or will it sort itself out? Which files should I try to get from the Maxtor, the Maxtor files, the C drive files or the restore files? I'm completely lost. I would not do anything but since i downloaded the SP3, the computer is REALLY messed up. thanks for your advice. |
