Answer»

:'(I recently lent out my hp laptop to my girlfriends sister over the weekend she had it for a day n a half when i got it back and i turned it on says operating system not found , what can i do to fix it ? is there a fix to this ?please Help thanksSounds tome like she destroyed your operating system. You are going to need to reinstall your operating system. She could downloaded a virus that wiped your hard drive. There is NOTHING you can do at this point, that I know of.Quote

There is nothing you can do at this point, that I know of.
But here is. You find the serial number and service number on the Laptop. You contact the tech support of the company giving the information. If the machine is still under warranty or has an extended service policy, they may provide you a CD that can recovery the system. Do not assure that have no interest. The pay more attention to the laptops because that is big business. They don't want people to know that laptops a re a headache. if you have a compaq computer for say, then you probably already have a restore system on pc can try recovery with. OTHERWISE get a recovery disk and at least for compaq pc's I know you have to pay for the recovery cd if you get if from the help line techs.Double click Here...

This is the Recovery Console for XP and use it to create a bootable CD...

Boot to the CD and after the Console loads fully at the command PROMPT type in fixboot and hit Enter...
Remove the CD and re-boot.
If this does not work repeat the procedure except this time type in fixmbr and hit Enter...
Again remove the CD and re-boot.I made the bootable cd already, i just dont UNDERSTAND the rest, when i turn the pc on, the Esc option part comes on to push f11 n all that but i looked n i cant figure it out if i dont push ANYTHING it goes to Programming system not found n it just repeats itself when i push keyz, please help me further its a little frustrating thanksIt sounds like it is still trying to boot the hard drive...
Hit the escape button when prompted which will enter the BIOS.
Under Advanced menu options there will be a boot device priority option.
Set CDROM or DVDROM as the first device and press F10 to "save options and Exit"
It should now boot to the CD you made...

NOTE: If you are unfamiliar with this procedure it's best left alone til you can find someone who has done it before...I already set the dvdrom as first device n saved it when i was looking for a way to restore it with the cd but it still wont work for me it goes right back to programming..... when it restarts i dont know whut to do??
