Answer»

no important data and not orignal owner just trying to get it up and running
for personal use any suggestions? i was think about taking it to a repair shop tomarrow what do you think?Well, with Dell B110 starting at $279.00.I would keep on trying to fix it myself.

Turning it in for repairs probably including an operating system could make a
B110 look real inviting.

Windows + loading + repair charge =$250+, easily.

A legal copy of Windows and you installing = $120 or so.A legal copy of Windows and you installing = $120 or so.

OEM? Yes. Retail? No.  More than 200 dollars for a retail version. In Europe, anyway.Yes that would be for an OEM of XP in the US.

It would be a different PRICE in the Netherlands.   Quote

You'd have to buy a new PC to get an OEM, it is no longer allowed to sell them with individual parts such as CD-ROM drives.

How much does a retail version cost? The OEM is about the same price in Holland as it is in America.ok yes it orignaly worked just fine but do u think if i get a copy of windowsxp(my friend has a copy) do you think reinstalling it will fix it??? Quote

I wouldn't bother with an illegal version of Windows XP for daily use.would it still be illegal even if i do have a legal key code?

No, unless the key has been blacklisted by Microsoft due to it being used by more than one PERSON.

Did you completely reformat the HDD before installing Windows?

You should use diagnostic software from the HDD manufacturer to verify the HDD's status.Contact Microsoft support and have em send you restore discs. Not too hard and they will only cost you about 20$ including shipping i think.  8-)ok yes i reformated the drive still same thing so i GUESSING that one if not more of the hardware is fried i dunno this is makeing me mad but thanks for the help guysWhat type of monitor do you have? You can test the hard drives using diagnostic software that you can obtain at the manufacturers website.
