Solve : Need to restrict users access/privileges. (Several questions actually)?

Answer»

Hello, my first post here on the forums. ^__^
I read the FAQ Database, couldn't find anything there I believe in regards to my questions so I decided to post.

Anyways I work at a local drop-in center for YOUTHS and in the center we have a computer lab with 12 computers or so. And my questions are in regards to restricting user access/privileges such as;

- How do disable right-click so that they can not save pictures onto the hard drive? as well as prevent them from changing the wallpaper.

- Are there any programs that can record MSN conversations so I know who they are TALKING to online?

- They often play online games such as Gunz the Duel (which you also have to download), I don't have a problem with them playing it however if they are on the 'student' account it says 'you do not have the privileges to RUN this program' or so, is there any way to allow this? (But not allow them to download anything else in the future?)
-- So how can I allow them to download something (of my choice by lifting the restriction), but always allow them to run the program, even after I put the downloading restriction back up?

- Sort of big questions here, how do I set up a LAN or a game server? (so we can play like Command and Conquer, Worms Armaggedon, etc) All I know is that all the computers in the room is hooked up to one router.

- Example: the password for the student account is lets say 'book', which I would want to keep, but if you press alt+ctrl+delete it brings you to a new screen, with change password, task manager, log off, shut down, and well there are 6 options total. How do I prevent them from changing the password?

- Any other recommendations in regards to monitoring a computer lab, or what they do on a computer? (Have anti-virus, anti-spyware, I believe a firewall already)

Thank you very much for your time. ^__^ Okay to some what answer this. It depends what operating system is installed eg windows 2000,xp...

There are programs that can record msn yahoo ect but I can not lease the information.

There is away to block downloading but I'm not sure how as for the accounts its CAUSE there limited an blocking those sites. You have to approve them.

Sorry if it wasnt much helpAll computer are running on Windows XP.

Also another questions:
- Where can I find the serial number on the computer? (As the previous computer administrator lost the orginal installation CD's and was planning on contacting Dell and ask if they could send a few copies.)To disable right click, log onto the account where you want to disable right click: Start -> Run -> Regedit -> HKEY_CURRENTUSERS\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Right click on the right side (Under 'Name") and create a new DWORD value named NoViewContextMenu. Assign it a value of 1.

To prevent the users from changing their passwords: Log on with an account that has Administrative rights. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Switch to Classic View (if it's not already) -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Local Users and Groups -> Users -> select the user account -> Right Click -> Properties -> put a check in "user cannot change password"
