Solve : new hard-drive and Windows XP? |
|
Answer» Ok I had to have my HARD drive replaced on my HP Pavillion dv4230us notebook and i was wondering if i would have to buy and reinstall Windows XP myself or if one of the discs that CAME with the notebook for repair or reinstallation would help. Also, am i going to have to reinstall EVERYTHING on to my notebook? If anyone could help me, it would be greatly appreciated.IF YOU HAVE THE XP DISK, YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO REBOOT; HOWEVER, WHY DIDN'T THE PERSON WHO REPLACED YOUR HARDDRIVE DO IT? WHEN YOU DO GET IT BACK UP, BE SURE AND MAKE A SET OF RECOVERY DISKS.........I INSTALLED A NEW SEAGATE DRIVE IN MY PRESARIO AND SIMPLY LOADED EVERYTHING BACK UP WITH MY SET OF RECOVERY DISKS thanks...i haven't gotten my notebook back yet, i was just wondering if i needed to get xp. yeah i will make recovery disks now. luckily i had saved all my pictures from digital cameras on a zip drive about a couple of weeks before my hard drive FAILED. If they have the notebook and you didn't recieve XP CD's with it then your copy of XP is on a hidden partition of the HDD they are replacing...you should contact them immediately if this is the case.okay thanks, i'll ask them when i get my notebook back Update: well the people fixing my notebook got it to run so they are going to try to back everything up before replacing the motherboard, so hopefully i'll still have my stuff.Good News...Thanx for letting us know. |
