Hi there.

My friend's computer had loads of ISSUES so we decided to format the hard drive and load WINDOWS xp SP3.

All is ok except for 2 things;
1. We cannot install any programs...any .msi install package comes up with the error "This installation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer package" error 1619.

2. We can't open Security or Firewall features in Control Panel.

I have done loads of research and have come to a HALT as nothing seems to fix the problems.

I have done a validation check through microsoft.com and the OS shows up as 'genuine'. I just think something went wrong during installation and a file is missing or something.
