I know this doesn't help you, but McAfee is the absolute WORST software you can find (and I'm not big on product bashing, but this is the EXCEPTION). You really should replace it with a better product. For now, I'd download KASPERSKY Anti-Virus (in my opinion it's the best) and use the 30 day free trial option (you'll need to uninstall McAfee first). Scan your system with it and see if it picks up anything. If not, you can do a repair INSTALLATION of XP (boot to the XP CD and choose the SECOND repair option) which will essentially install XP on top of itself, replacing all modified and missing system files with the original versions. It will not effect any installed apps or system settings. If none of these things work - well, I think you can guess..........
