Solve : No bootable device from Win XP disk? |
|
Answer» Hi all, i recently formatted my drive and got rid of everything, when i put windows xp into the drive originally it kept telling me that i had no OS. So i switched about the boot order to MAKE it boot from the c drive and it tells me there is no bootable device. I was pretty sure that the windows xp disk WAS bootable, and im at a loss as to why it wont do it. Any and all responses are very much appreciated. Thank YOUIF you formatted your drive, you have erased EVERYTHING. There is no operating system left. Its usualy on the right or left hand side. When you push the button on it, it pops out Hard Disk, Hard Drive, or HDD: The Hard Drive stores large amounts of information. It cannot be removed without taking apart a piece of your computer. You are trying to boot from the CD-ROM drive on your laptop. Change the boot order to IDE-CD ROM (or just CD-Rom) and have the second boot OPTION the C:\ Hard Drive Or, press F12 right when your computers BIOS screen loads (when the computer logo is displayed when you start your computer) It will most likely prompt you to choose a startup drive. Select the IDE CD-ROM drive if its there, or just CD-ROM drive How do you know he's got a laptop, Zylstra? Contrex, It really doesn't matter if it is a laptop or not because it will be the same except for the physical location of the CD-ROM drive. Lchris217, Your disc might be scratched. It might be the disc drive that has the issue so if you are using a desktop and you have multiple disc drives try PUTTING the disc into another drive and then change the boot order so that drive is first.Quote from: contrex on June 21, 2007, 12:54:51 PM How do you know he's got a laptop, Zylstra?Hmm... I thought I read in the OP's post that it was. (Strange) So either my non-existent psychic powers have kicked in, or something is wrong in my headI first thought it was a desktop computer....There's no indication whatsoever of what type of computer it is. Desktop, laptop, server, palmtop, home entertainment, nada. I expect it's irrelevant anyway. My bad for bringing it up. |
