Solve : no icons in the network folder?

Answer»

I have a NEW first computer. There are no icons in my network folder. The onboard lan is enabled in the bios, and I have loaded the drivers from the mother board CD. I am running windows xp home edition. Doeas this mean my motherboard is faulty?? I have tried contacting the firm i bought it from but they are not replying; and they are a long way away from me. Any help would be very APPRECIATED. Daveplease be more specific and include more info on computerMy computer has a pentium duo processor on an asus motherboard. It came ready for me to use
with windows XP home already installed. Everything looked fine when I first started it up. I then went to install my Broadband modem which was to be connected to the computer, via the RJ45 or LAN as you call it. When I found I could not connect, I called the provider help line. When he took me through some check and noticed that I did not have any icons when I opened up network connections; he thought it was not installed or enebled in the bios. We carried out these checks. The bios was enabled for onboard LAN, and I installed the drivers from the Motherboard Disk. The computer was re-started and I went back to the Control Panel/Network Connections; again when this was opened the windows was blank with no Icons. He stated that the Motherboard was faulty and could not help me further.
Check device manager for the network adapter.  Is there is yellow dot with an exclaimtion point there?

Alan <><  There is nothing in the device manager nor in the network connections in the control panel;also the Network Setup Wizzard says there are no devices on the computer. taffy.... Lets start at the beginning. You purchased a new pc ....... from somebody .  I think a company or store name would be in order.
You say it has windows XP home c/w SP2 ?
Did you receive a winXP home edition cd with this machine ?
You say the machine will start up ok and loads windows XP........
Is there any other SOFTWARE with it ?
You say it has a on board Ethernet adapter , but that adapter doesnt show up in the device manager .
Do you have a PHONE number for the company you purchased it from ?
Do you have the address of this company ?

What do you mean they are not replying ? Does no one answer the phone when you call them ?

How did you pay them ?

It is a new machine purchased from Golen Computers on-line. Their only contact is via e-mail. It was recommended by PC Adisor a computer magazine here in the UK. The machine came loaded with WindowsXP Home, and they supplied a proper windows disk with serial number. Everything else on the computer runs ok; i.e. sound, graphics and microsoft works. The problem is the LAN/ethernet side. Nothing is recognised; that is why I am thinking it is a fault on the motherboard. I have e-mailed them twice about the problem, but to date have not had a reply.
