Solve : no Local Area Connection and hence no internet? (solved! thanks so much!)?

Answer»

Hi there,
well I just reinstalled my computer, booted it up and tried to connect to the internet but it wouldn't connect, it says there is no local area connection. I tried the NEW connection WIZARD, it goes through the process and says that it is all connected and WORKING but it isn't, and no icon is created. I went through several troubleshooting processes, INCLUDING going into administrative tools=>computer management => services and applications=> services, and there I checked the PLUG and play information and the remote procedure call and that all seems to be working correctly... then I went into device manager to check on the network adapters and it was not listed at all!
*sigh* what can I do? I want to get my internet up and running - I need to somehow get the local area connection thing back - and the network adaptor thing too..
Any help would be greatly appreciated, and if it happens to be quite an elaborate process to resurrect them, could you please explain the whole process? (I am improving on the computer and can manage many things, but some are very confusing to me )

Thankyou thankyou thankyou!!

List as much about your computer as possible. This includes operating system (what version of Windows you are using), service packs, computer make/model, RAM, hard drive, sound and video cards, current adware/spyware/virus programs being used on a regular basis, do you have a "real" Windows CD, etc.
hi yeah sorry, yeah i reinstalled the operating system - windows XP pro (not the original disc that was installed on it, but still all legit)... umm its an ASUS computer... don't know much about it to be honest as it was given to me, but its a really good computer.... lol. Click Start then Run and type in: devmgmt.msc and press enter. This will take you device manger. Do you see any yellow "?" or "!" If so you will need a driver for that device. you computer should have came with a driver disk. If you dont have it, then your computer manufacturers website should have the drivers available for download.JJ 3000, thankyou soooo much!!! found the motherboard disc, installed the drivers, hey presto internet!!! much appreciated! thank you thank you thankyou!!!No problem. Glad to hear you got it going.
