Solve : no standard vga driver?

this is my first post and need any help you guys can give.
i am TRYING to install a new graphic CARD but when i did the boot up only went so far and had black screen i had to re insall the old card and clear the cmos to get COMPUTER started the instuctions for the new cad said i need to ENABLE standard vga before installing new card problem is i CANT seem to find it.

i am running xp home ,motherboard is 939tubo g athlon64 processor.
new card is radeon 9600xt
old card is nvidea 6500 This one is for Windows 2000, but may work in XP:

I'd run HD diagnostic from your HD manufacturer, right away.You may be up to something.
I just checked, and your new card is PCI-E (Express), not simple PCI.
It may be not compatible with your mobo.
I'm not hardware guy, so you may start another topic, asking just this question.
