Answer» OK. I’m not sure what is wrong with my PC here. I tried everything I know how, so now I’m asking for your help.
Here’s the SPECS for my laptop:
HP Pavilion dv3510nr – Celeron 2 processor w/ 4 GB RAM running on Vista.
So here’s what happened. A few days ago, I noticed my COMPUTER was really running slowly. I found this to be a little STRANGE, as the Celeron 2 and 4 GB of RAM are usually enough for everyday tasks. However, simple things like using Firefox or trying to load iTunes resulted in a “program not responding” every TIME.
For some reason, some of my virus scanners won’t run. Example – I tried running SPYBOT Search and Destroy, but the program won’t run. When I ctrl+alt+dlt to go into processes, it says Spybot is running. (It doesn’t show up under applications, just under processes). Weird.
I was able to run Advanced System Care. It showed no major problems. I tried running House Call (online virus scanner) but Firefox froze up again. Every time, Firefox just freezes up. Firefox (or IE) won’t run for more than a minute or two without the “program not responding” Not sure what’s going on.
I thought that maybe this meant I should run the Windows update. I thought this might be the problem, as it had been popping up for the past few days. So I ran through that update (which was Vista SP2, I believe) Even after the update, everything is buggy.
I re-checked the Windows site to see if there were any more updates (or to see if SP2 didn’t install properly). However, nothing showed up.
So what should I do? Half of all the applications I click on won’t open. Some show that they are open in processes but the application itself is nowhere to be found. I’m not sure how to approach this, since half of the virus scanners I have don’t work anyway.
Also, I’ve tried restarting/shutting down my laptop many times. Where do I go from here? Your system is infected. Go to the malware forum on this site and follow the instructions in the announcement at the top of the page.Thanks. will do.
