I am not sure how much space you'll actually recover on that, but on my own vista pc, it sometimes looks a lot.Quote from: 2x3i5x on May 18, 2011, 03:13:22 PM

So can disk cleanup - no need for a 3rd party app Quote from: Allan on May 18, 2011, 03:17:39 PM

I realize that, but I tend to like to use one app to do multiple THINGS, if they can do them all well. Personally i would not install Win7 on anything less than a 40-50G partition/drive...

But thats just me...NO, it's "not just me". It's common sense.
Of course Win-7 is bigger than XP. By a country MILE! It's actually HUGE!
I used to backup my XP drive to a single DVD, with some compression, but
with 7, I have to use a whole stack of DVD's to back up C:.

Anyway your question should be "How do I increase the size of my C: Drive?"

I've seen it told that Windows 7 can do that, but I'd rather use a third party program,
like Easeus Partition Master. Leave at least 40gigs of HD space for Windows 7 and all its
BS. Then put all non-essential stuff, like movies and music on a second partition, or just write them
to DVD's, or an external hard drive.

CCleaner? Ya gotta be kidding me. I used that twice over several years time and it destroyed my
hard drive both times.
If you'll run windows own "Disk Cleaner" in the Extended mode, it will take out a lot more junk than
in the Default mode. Ever hear of that? Here's the shortcut that does that:

%SystemRoot%\System32\Cmd.exe /c Cleanmgr /sageset:65535 & Cleanmgr /sagerun:65535

The first time you run Disk Cleanup like that, it asks you to select what you want it to delete.
I always select everything BUT, Office Setup Files and 'Setup.log' files. Those need to remain.
Everything else can GO!

On my own PC, to save space and keep things running lean, mean and clean, I wrote a batch file to clean out all the stuff that other programs don't remove. I run that cleanup.bat program from my Startup folder, for a daily cleanup. I call that my FREE Maid Service. Yuk! Yuk!

First, you have to start out with plenty of space for your OS, programs and data files, then you need to develope a plan for keeping it clean.

Good Luck,
Shadow

thnx Fr the Help every1 , one thing more i needed to ask , i jus checked there's folder in C Drive MSOCache , its taking 800 Mb of the space , are these the the system files , if not then wot are they and can i delete them ?? also there's a folder PROGRAM DATA that includes folder like HP ,NOKIA Suite , Yahoo , temp ,can i delete them too ??Quote from: TheShadow on May 18, 2011, 06:18:29 PM

I don't know what you were doing but CCleaner definitely does not destroy hard drives. If it did, millions of users would stop using it and that hasn't happened.Just avoid their registry cleaner module, as one should avoid ALL registry cleaners.http://bc-programming.com/blogs/2011/05/windows-disk-cleanup-in-depth/

PS: I think CCleaner also enumerates those keys so we can assume it runs the same cleanup logic found in the same DLL files, as well as WHATEVER it does on it's own.
