Answer» Hey everyone, My noebook HP Compaq nc6400 RUNNING XP Professional Updated to SP3 was running just fine, resently displayed the NTLDR missing ERROR, I´m sure that its not the SP3 upadte that caused this because i installed the update in January and it has been working just fine. This just started today. I tried to copy the NTLDR file from an original XP CD, when i type the command copy D:\i386\NTLDR C\: i get the following error Acess is Denied. What could be wrong? The file system in the NoteBook is NTFS. Could this be the issue?
Any tricks to bypass this issue? Appreciate 1) Boot to your XP CD and choose the first Repair option (press R) - this will take you to the Recovery Console 2) Once you are at the command prompt enter the following two commands (press ENTER after each): fixboot fixmbr 3) Type EXIT and press ENTERThanks for the post, I forgot to mention on my first post, i did that too, tried fixboot and fixmbr and i tried it just now again. still no solution.
Any other idea. My main concern is why i get the Acess is Denied error when i attempt to copy D:\i386\NTLDR C\: Please helpI assume you are working at the Recovery Console? If so, it's because you NEED to enable a couple of "switches" in the Recovery Console in order to access off-disc media and multiple paths. In order to make these CHANGES you need access to the Windows Registry, which you don't seem to have.
Meanwhile, just do a repair install (boot to the XP cd and choose the SECOND repair options)Yes i´m working on Recovery console, I will try the SECOND repair options and will post back. Thanks for the helpThank me when we're up and running
