Solve : NTRDL is missing, tried everything, still not working??

Answer»

I'm running an IBM ThinkCentre with Windows XP that has been kept upgraded with the Service Packs and other updates.

I ended up with the NTLDR is missing error. So USING my husband's computer (matches mine), I searched for how to fix it, tried all the ideas I found and none of them worked. One of them gave me an error that hal.dll was missing.

When I try to do anything, my computer "loses" the hard drive. It will show up in a BIOS check and will still be in the list when I get to the menu to select my CD drive as the boot drive. It takes me through to the menu where I can choose to REPAIR Windows and that's where the hard drive disappears from the lists.

Very frustrating and because I have irreplaceable data on the drive, formatting isn't an option unless there is a way for me to recover that data first.

Use a SATA port higher than 2...

I'm looking at my motherboard right now..there are four connections for the SATA cable to go from the hard drive to the board. I've tried all four connection points and the computer is not acknowledging the drive, even in the BIOS.

MonaDead drive ? ?No..I can hear it working when I start the computer. As soon as Windows starts, it stops going. During start up, it'll run, but won't show up in the BIOS.

I'm beginning to think it's possessed.  If it's not showing up in the BIOS but you know it's spinning up the partition table is likely fried beyond control...
