Answer» Bear with me, as I know very little about Vista, just helping my sister with her computer.... She has a Toshiba Satellite laptop, and all of a sudden her headphones jack wont play SOUND.... Went into control panel / sound and when doing that it says the headphones are working, and when I do a test, they indeed play the test sound just fine, you can HEAR it on the headphones, but when I go to play anything, nothing comes through them, the sound just keeps coming out of the laptop speakers, unlike when you plug the headphones in, and the sound from the speakers should stop..... Any advice? Thanx....No ideas at all?Does another set of headphones work ? ? If i remember correctly the Test overrrides these settings...FIXED the problem, somehow how found a way to RESTORE the sound default settings, thanx for the help Patio.....

Yep, tried another set of headphones, as well as speakers, and a factory cd, no MATTER, it always just playes out of the laptop speakers, except when I do the test....Check in Control Panel/Sounds and Multimedia and make sure nothing is set to Mute...
