When i purchased my new laptop i had all my files transfered at the place i bought it. All the files i had in Microsoft word, on my old computer, got put into microsoft office on the new one. One of the PROBLEMS i am having is with some invoices i had on word. My office trial period is up and now i can't use the invoices without purchasing a full office subscription. I believe that's around 400.00 and i don't want to go that route. Is there a way i can transfer those invoices from office to something else such as Microsoft Works? What is the FORMAT of the files?  Are they .doc files or .xls (Excel) files?

I suggest starting with Open Office.

Open Office is a free office software suite with the FEATURES of Microsoft Office.  It won't READ the newest .docx format from Office 2007, but I'm pretty sure they're working on that format.I would agree with Aegis. Open Office works great and is free.

Or if all you really need is word than try out ABIword. Its free and looks like and works like MS word.
