Answer» All my work was on it, and I really need it, the worst part was that I was just about to backup!!
I start up, VISTA says it's loading files, and then I can choose normal start or startup repair. Whatever I choose, after a long wait i come to a blue screen. With system repair options. I can also choose a variety of other options, including system restore - which tells me it can't work because the computer is offline.
I choose startup repair, and it cannot fix anything. I look at the log? It tells me this:
Everything is fine, apart from the REGISTRY is corrupt. It tried registry roll back and it failed. Code 8x3e7 It also says load key failed error 999 STHIVEHO
I am on vista home pro, 2gb ram, er 2mz processer AMD, hp pavillion.
Before this happened, I ended Desktop Window Manager DWM, iin the processes, I know it was a stupid thing to do but my laptop was really slow, and I thought it was to do with aero, so at worst it should just STOP all the pretty effects? I blame it on having the flu.
But for about 5 minutes after I ended that it was fine!
Also for half an HOUR before my laptop was really really slow, more so than usual.
I downloaded 3 programs. 2 FLV players and one FLV converter. I can find the names if you need.
I also torrented a lot, but hadn't opened any of that yet.
Is there anything else I should tell you that would help?
Thanks so so so much, I really hope I can get my work back!!!Do you have Vista DVD?I do not have a cd. BUT on the back of my laptop there's some licence sticker with a key on it.
If I torrent it onto a cd then I should be able to use this key I guess?
Also yesterday I went to hp selfcheck from bios. And it told me the hard drive needed to be replaced.Find out the manuf. of that hard drive and get the Free diagnostics from the drive manuf. site...follow the instructions on creating a bootable diagnostic CD and run the long test... If you're going to torrent Vista you will probably wind up with at least twice as many issues as you have now. Let's find out the STATUS of the drive for now...For HD diagnostic, check here: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287
