Answer» Hi I have decided to start using a laptop for everything I do from now on, the problem comes because my old computer has winxp pro and all of my information that I want to keep. The laptop came with winxp home and a hard drive that is not near as larg. Is there any way to transfer everything including the xp pro to the laptop from the desktop? Can it be done as some kind of image or something? Also is it easy to UPGRADE laptop parts like hard drive and memory and vid card the one I got has a nice processor but that is about it -I just got stuck with it! :-/
Any help would be greatly appreciated If you use a laptop, you will have to make some sacrifices.. Everything has to be very compact, unless you travel a lot you're better off with a good Desktop which is much easier to maintain, upgrade and repair.Man thats not what I WANTED to hear Do they make hard drives for laptops with larg capasity the one I ended up with has 30gb I want something like 80!! Also I have experience with redhat And was thinking there might be a way to use it to make some kind of iso of my hard drive or something. I dont know though if I could get rid of the laptop it wouldnt be a problem -see I sell on eBay and the laptop is one that was selling two months ago for big bucks but this one is the last one and I cant get rid of it for at LEAST what I paid cause everything has changed so much. O well if I have to use it and I have to be compact it will all be better for school anyways I am certain there are larger Hard Disk Drives than 30 GB avaible for Laptops.
You could also use an external HDD.
I have no experience with creating images, but have you tried software such as Norton Ghost? Thanks for the info even though it isnt exactly what I wanted to hear-lol
If I figure out something that is easy and free I will post it so you will be able to TELL others if the question ever comes up again

1) Yes, they make 100GB notebook drives. Better to get 60GB 7200rpm than an 80GB 5400rpm or 4200rpm http://www.hitachigst.com/
2) Symantec Ghost creates an image. Runs from DOS. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q306187
