Answer» Hello Everyone: When newer VERSIONS of things come up like (windows media player 11) how is one suppose to know whether to Uninstall the older versions first or NOT? Is there a way to tell if this has to be done first? I would like to know for sure before installing anything! Any Idea's? Thanks, TomIt depends on what specific software you are referring to. Usually an uninstall is not required OUTSIDE of video drivers if you are switching from ATI to nVidia, etc.GX1_man: You said >> It depends on what specific software you are referring to<< thats just it, only on occassion do I see the software STATE that you have to uninstall old version first! It doesn't seem to matter what software! Is there a way to find out before hand? like for windows media player, I want to download "11" I now have "10" and I looked thru the install INSTRUCTIONS and saw nothing about remove old version first so there are no conflicts. But I wish there was a way to know at all times? No, you do not need to uninstall Media Player before loading a newer version. There is your definitive answer. Thanks, but Actually I am not looking for any specific one, how does some one know whether any software as to be uninstalled before downloading a newer version? It usually doesn't matter if you uninstall before installing a new version or not, unless, as GX1 said, it's video drivers. As a general rule, if it says somewhere in the readme or on the site that you need to, then do it. If you are at all unsure, Google it. If you're still not sure, then uninstall before installing a new version. Then you can't go wrong.Ok, Thanks Guys, will do. |
