Solve : one last try?

Answer»

Hello all,

My computer is generating lot's of useless files all the time. The only way I stay above water is if I do a cleaning (I use CCleaner and Easy Cleaner) several times a day.

I've tried lot's of anti spy ware, done cleaning in Safe mode, but have never come up with anything to delete.

Just as an example, if I clean, on Easy Cleaner using the Unnecessary files thing, down to 4 files that cannot be cleaned -- then go on the internet for news and 10 minutes of Youtube -- when I run the cleaner again I have 300, 500 or more than a thousand files that need cleaning.

Is this just me? Or is there a problem? Forget GAMING, I lag-out right away...

Help!Welcome to the CH forums.

Please read this..

We need to know what firewall and anti-virus you have installed and the name(s) of some of the files you are deleting.

Thanks for the reply!

I have Norton security, both anti-virus and firewall.

Sorry, I'm such a noob that I'm not sure If there are additional firewalls...

Here are some examples of the files that appear:

Documentsandsettings¥(my name)localsettings¥temporaryinternetfiles¥content.IE5¥ONOANGGI

(SAME) ¥catbg1gif
(SAME) ¥chrank8lgif
(SAME) CJF66MDN¥desktop.ini
(SAME) ¥G69NOTAN¥chrank1[1].gif

I had 50 files like these in the time it took to go to my mailbox, click the link to read your post and return...

Hirose49What version of windows are you running? Also are you running IE 5?
Hi and thanks,

I have Windows XP and...

How do I find which IE I have?

...noobWhen the IE window is OPEN, click Help and then click About. This will display a small window which shows information on the version and release. Thanks!

I'm running IE6.0Catbg1.gif is mentioned here but what the connection to your pc is I haven't a clue.

I think your system is infected - one of our authorised malware removal team might drop in soon. If not suggest you repost in the Software - Computer Viruses and Spyware forum.

When you post don't forget to give some details of your pc, make/model and mention your OS and AV software.

Good luckOne more thing...is the path where the files are always this?

Documents and settings\my name\local settings\temporary internet files\content.IE5\ONOANGGI

Each time a user visits a website using Microsoft Internet Explorer, files downloaded with each web page (including html, images, Cascading Style Sheets and JavaScript scripts) are saved to the Temporary Internet Files folder, created a cache of the web page on the local computer's hard disk. The next time the user visits the cached website, only changed content needs to be downloaded from the Internet; the unchanged data is available in the cache.

You can go into the advanced settings for IE (tools...Internet Options and the advanced tab) and scroll to the bottom and look for acheck box that says

Empty Temporary Files when BROWSER is closed.

This will clear your cache each time you are done with the web. This system is all by design and working normally.

I'll do that,

Thanks!BUT,

this doesn't solve my problem. Still huge amounts of files generated EVEN after a VERY short time spent on the internet... while I get slower and slower...
