Solve : Only an 'Administrator' account will display ALL pictures/graphics on websites -?

Answer»

Hi,

I have a 32 bit 'XP Pro SP3' system running 'IE7', with 1 'Administrator' and 3 'Guest' accounts.

Over the last few days only the 'Administrator' account can view ALL graphics/pictures on webpages - the other accounts can only view SOME. A typical example is the 'Google' logo on its search page. This is displayed perfectly with the 'Administrator' account, but nothing is shown on the other accounts - except the 'UK' part. On other webpages, only the red 'X' placeholder symbol is displayed.

Whenever I set-up a PC I create the required number of user accounts (all 'Administrators'). When ALL applications/peripherals are installed/updated and have been successfully run and configured with ALL accounts, I then restrict the accounts to 'Guest' users - except one which is kept as an 'Administrator'. This account is then only used for maintenance/updating, and not for everyday use or general surfing. This method has served me well and without any problems, over numerous builds for many PEOPLE.

The problem PC is not a recent build and has been running without incident for many months.

My faultfinding so far has been:

1). Check other websites to see if same problem exists.

2). Clearing 'Temporary Internet Files'.

3). Verifying the 'Show Pictures' tick-box is ticked in 'Internet Options-Advanced-Multimedia'.

4). Verifying that 'Scripting, Active X Controls, Cookies' and 'Java' programs are correctly configured and updated.

5). Verifying that image types are supported by 'IE7'.

6). Checked that Internet security, anti-virus and broadband hardware/software is not the cause.

7). Verifying that the 'Auto-Select' encoding option is ticked and the correct encoding language is chosen - Western European (Windows) in this case.

8). CHANGING the restricted user accounts back to 'Administrator'. ALL pictures/graphics are then displayed with no problems, until the accounts are again restricted to 'User' or 'Guest'.

9). Creating new accounts and testing these - ALL with the same result.

10). Deleting one of the current restricted accounts and recreating it, again with the same results.

11). Comparing the settings in 'Internet Options' for the 'Administrator' account with the same settings in the restricted accounts - nothing different.

I knew that some of the above solutions were not going to work because they applied to the PC as a whole, which would have included the perfectly working 'Administrator' account. However, I wanted to ensure that nothing was missed - irrespective of how FRUITLESS the outcome was.

What is it that I am missing. This problem is both intriguing me and 'doing-my-head-in'.

Regards,

Fretful.
I would try updating Internet Explorer to its latest stable release...which is IE8...or try ANOTHER browser.  On that same note...you can also try a System Restore to a point where it was working before. One thing you could try is to download a different browser, firefox or chrome, install as admin, then go back to the accounts that weren't working and try it. After that at least you should know if its IE software problem. Quote from: jrfrye on February 23, 2012, 12:37:13 PM

Redundant...since I already suggested that.  Read my post above yours...
