Hello: I work at a university and a student has sent me a pptx file. My ppt 2003 says: Can't read file. No text converter is installed . Download the converter from microsoft website. Link here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=941B3470-3AE9-4AEE-8F43-C6BB74CD1466&displaylang=en You shoud now be able to open, edit, and save files using the file formats new to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 and pptx is the default powerpoint filetype for office 2007. Thank you for responding. Actually, I already have the file converter and have no problem converting docx files. But for some reason, the pptx file just won't come through. I also went to the microsoft page and downloaded the PPT 2007 reader, HOPING that would help. But no luck so far. I wrote to the student and asked her to send the file through again. Maybe a fresh copy will help! I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the help. In peace Dr. D. http://www.zamzar.com/ Try above website, it says it's able to convert pptx to ppt. I've have never used that website before except to convert images from one filetype to another. The image filetype conversion worked successfully, so I think it should work fine if pptx file not broken. Also you might want to ask student to resave file as ppt format before resending you? That way it will already be in correct format for you and if powerpoint file is not sent to you broken then you should see it fine. Do you have volume license key of windows XP? Maybe too many people REGISTER windows xp with same key so microsoft did not like it so you see all the notices about non authentic windows and unfortunately, windows update not WORKING properly if non authentic windows detected by MS. (Ask your university's computer center for help if your windows copy come from university)Go here... http://www.ofzenandcomputing.com/zanswers/866 Alan <>< Thank you all for helping. The problem is solved. What I did was that I downloaded the ppt 07 viewer, and I already had the text converter. Still no go. So I asked to have the attachment sent through again, this time to my gmail instead of university mail, and everything worked out. So I think the university system garbled the file! Thanks for everyone for helping. Over and out. In peace Dr. D. |
