hey everyone, my problem is basically that i went to give ubuntu a TRY and somehow when i went to install it it decided to install on the windows 7 partition, i saw that it wasnt right so i turned off the laptop, i go to boot it up again and the only screen is a "/" flashing in the top left corner over and over. nothing else happens. i have tried to get my windows disc to reinstall windows but it says it cant because the partition type is now an "unknown file system" so i dont know what to do. is there any way of changing the file system without wiping all my data? ubuntu seems to have done so. thanks for reading If you had installed Win7 it would have wiped your files anyways...
What you can try is a Repair Install which retains everything if done PROPERLY...
Boot to the Win7...select advanced boot MENU...then select repair install.

However this may not work as Linux installs its own bootloader but it's WORTH a try...
I'll do some looking on nuking the Grub loader without messin up Windows...but try this in the meantime.
BTW when WANTING a dual-boot of Win and any Linux Distro seperate HDD's is THE way to go...
