Answer»

There is no compcln.exe in my Windows 7 installation. A WEB search showed that it is not INCLUDED. It is a Vista file.

yep theres no compcln.exe file in system32 file..
mm winsxs takes ard 7 GB so is it common for a win7 os drive to take 31 GB (discarding winsxs) ?http://windirstat.info/

download and run windirstat. It will help you find out exactly where the large folders/files are. Let us know what you find out.Quote from: Salmon Trout on August 17, 2010, 11:33:57 AM

Why do I have it? I guess I did an upgrade install from Vista... I thought I only did that with my laptop... oh well. My mistake.Quote from: BC_Programmer on August 17, 2010, 04:45:07 PM

After a thought, I find that it is coming with service pack 2 of windows vista.

That should be where this compcln.exe came from. So, BC, if you ever done that you now know where it came from. Quote from: michaewlewis on August 17, 2010, 12:07:22 PM

Everything looks about normal to me, as far as folder size.
Give BC_Programmer's advice a try first to REDUCE the size of the winsxs folder. http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/itdojo/?p=1060
You might want to turn off hibernation and carefully get rid of hiberfil.sys (http://helpdeskgeek.com/windows-7/windows-7-delete-hibernation-file-hiberfil-sys/) to reclaim some hard drive space.
You could also try decreasing your page file (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Change-the-size-of-virtual-memory). Before doing so, make a note of the current settings in case you need to revert. If things start getting really slow or unstable, you might want to undo it.

Actually, now that I think through it again, just move your paging file to your other drive. Set no paging file on drive C and 6gb or system managed on drive D.Quote from: michaewlewis on August 19, 2010, 01:02:30 PM
